LEGO Transformers Returns! LEGO ICONS Shockwave revealed!

It's been a minute since I last did this, so forgive me if I am a bit rusty.

LEGO has revealed the next installment in their successful line of Transformers sets: the Decepticon communications officer Soundwave.

I'm a pretty big Transformers fan myself, with a whole shelf dedicated to the Robots in Disguise. Continuing this series beyond the primary characters of Optimus and Bumblebee is exciting to me. However, I feel the series will always be incomplete due to Megatron's alt modes being too problematic for the LEGO brand to release him in brick form.

While I was not impressed with the recent Bumblebee figure, this is a really good-looking set. The figure perfectly captures the essence of the G1 design. The proportions look good, and the coloring is fantastic. I love the inclusion of his lamp post alt mode from the beginning of the G1 cartoon; it makes me happy to see LEGO embracing some of the inherent goofiness of the Transformers series.

Soundwave would not be complete without his mini-cassette minions Ravage and Laserbeak. Both of them look excellent in brick form, and more impressively, they both seem to transform. Both figures can also fit in Soundwave's chest when in cassette form.

The coolest part of this set is the new sound brick LEGO included. Soundwave will say a slew of catchphrases, including the iconic "Soundwave superior" line. I really wish that they had come up with this idea for the Optimus Prime set so we could hear lines like "Autobots, roll out!" coming from a LEGO figure.

Here are the set details from LEGO:

I think this is a really cool addition to the LEGO Transformers lineup. While the price is a little high, it isn't the worst that we have seen in recent years. I hope we can get more Decepticons down the line.  (Fingers crossed they can figure something out for my boy Shockwave to get a release.)
